Former NFL player Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge stemming from a gunfire that happened in May, with his lawyer filing a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Correctional documents in Essex County, New Jersey, show that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, a highly popular athletes in the National Football League, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an message that he has already filed a formal innocent declaration to the murder attempt allegation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday early for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh added.

Based on his detention warrant, Brown is alleged of taking a pistol from a safety staffer after a public figure boxing contest in May and firing two rounds at a man he had fought with earlier. The claimed individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators that a bullet scraped his neck.

Eiglarsh stated that Brown was merely defending himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was forced to take were solely in defense against the reported person’s aggressive conduct. Brown was targeted that evening and responded within his legal right to defend himself,” Eiglarsh stated.

Brown was not promptly apprehended because initially police did not identify Nantambu as a affected party. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu delivered a complete account about the situation to authorities and identified Brown as the gunman, the report indicates.

From his digital posts, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for a number of months. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by multiple persons who sought to steal my jewelry and bring physical injury to me.”

A second-degree murder attempt accusation in Florida bears a maximum 15-year jail term and up to a $10,000 fine in the instance of a guilty verdict.

Brown has encountered multiple judicial challenges over the period. He before had been charged of battery of a truck driver, several family violence accusations, inability to pay parental support and further events.

In a 2021 season game with his team against the opponents, Brown stripped off his shirt, protective gear and gloves and exited the stadium, leading to his termination by the Buccaneers and effectively halting his NFL journey.

Brown, who completed twelve years in the National Football League, was an elite wide receiver who passed most of his career with his team. Throughout his career, Brown had over 900 catches for above twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the twenty-eighth most of all time. He was a 7-time all-star selection.
