Football Roundup: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Defensive Affair
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos clinched a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Wins Contest
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 total net yards throughout the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes left.
Historic Struggles for Jets Attack
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to score a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of sending out specialist Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with minus-10 net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn commented following the game.
