Half a Million Bees Killed in Netherlands Fire Incident.

Destroyed beehives
A beekeeper's ten beehives were razed in a park in the Dutch city of Almere.

A Dutch beekeeper has voiced shock after his 10 beehives were set ablaze in a public garden in the city of Almere, causing the loss of an approximated 500,000 bees.

The beekeeper mentioned that each hive contained a colony of 40-60,000 bees, and the idea that anyone could kill them was devastating.

"It really hurts that my 10 hives have perished," he informed local broadcaster.

Law enforcement in Almere, located to the east of Amsterdam, have requested observers after the arson attack on Tuesday night in the city's scenic Beatrixpark. They shared images of the fire on social media.

The Netherlands authorities says that over 50% of the nation's 360 types of bee are at risk of dying out, as the population of bees decreases globally.

The beekeeper explained that police had informed him an flammable substance had been employed to burn the colonies, which were placed on wooden platforms in a wooded part of the garden.

Almost none of the bees survived and he said that he had little faith the arsonist would be apprehended.

Fellow beekeeper a local beekeeper stated on national radio that she had three hives and planned to donate one of them.

For Mr Stringer, who cared for the colonies for about almost a decade, the incident means building a new colony in the area from scratch.

But he affirms he will continue his efforts.
